Wilmington, NC Redfish Report

As promised in another thread, I went out 2 days last week with Capt. Seth Vernon ( Mainly targeting redfish back in the marshes south of Wilmington.

Overall, Capt Seth was a fantastic guide. Great teacher and extremely patient. The weather was pretty uncooperative the first day, though I did get one tailer on the fly (maybe 5lb). Day 2 was much better sightfishing weather, and I landed a couple and blew 3 other shots that were relatively easy (and we caught some more on topwater plugs that, when you find the redfish, are almost like cheating, they're so effective). My nephew also managed a small (~14") Blacktip on the topwater plug, which none of us (including Seth) had ever seen before.

Great couple of days with a great guide. My in-laws used to frequent the area every summer, had been a 10 year absence, but now I'm hoping they continue the tradition so I can get out with Seth more often. You may consider that a blatant plug for his services if you're traveling to the Wi,mington (or Brunswick County, as we were) area. He knows the water (which is saying something in that maze of grass), the tides, which little cut in the grass is good when and a wealth of the fish and wildlife of the area. Just a great experience.

I fished with Capt. Seth a couple of years ago. An outstanding guides who puts a lot of effort into protecting his redfish. The guy is first class all the way.
