I am thinking about getting a new gps/sounder, so far I like the humminbird 917 with navionics. The other model is the 797c Si with side imaging. I think the side imaging is really cool but it might not be worth sacrificing screen size as the side imaging is more expensive. What would you guys recommend, and how has your experience with humminbird been?

I never much liked the combo units I do like hummingbird products I have had several Basic FF units from them.
I think I am going to install a Eagle Intelimap and a Hummingbird 565 they both fit my budget right now

Shane, those SI units caught my eye at some shows this winter. They looked too good to be true- so I had my doubts. I then spent time with some NE Captains that are using the SI technology and what they showed me was impressive. Being able to more or less take a picture from both sides of your boat is a killer option- especially around structure. Further, their standard sonor is of excellent quality as well.
I'm trying to sell my boat now and when I rig the new one, I am going with the HB997SI.
Good luck!

I just bought the 1197 after some research. Won't be on the water until May though. I'll let you know then.
