While looking at my cracked fender on my boat trailer the other day i noticed that all 4 tires on my trailer are wearing deeply on the inside tread. Tire pressure is and was good throughout the season. It is a dual axle trailer. I cannot get the weight capacity on the trailer due to the sticker being worn off. It has torsion arm suspension. I was told when i bought the boat that the trailer was a 2001. i have owned it for 2 years. The tires were new when i bought it.Could the torsion arms be worn out? and if so would it be cheaper to buy a used trailer vs replacig the axles? Or could it be something else? any thoughts? Thank you.

There's a bunch of things to consider about your trailer and some are about the actual load that's on it.... If the load you're carrying exceeds the trailer's capacity (not an unusual situation...) that might explain the wear you're seeing. Actual load weight is usually a whole lot higher than any numbers you get from the boat's builder since they tend to weigh the hull not only empty but without anything at all if they can get away with it. Add to the hull weight, fuel, motor, batteries, and everything else that folks carry and you're probably carrying a lot more than you realize....
I'm not familiar with torsion axles, preferring conventional axle and spring set-ups so it's possible that the your axles might be the problem. What I'd try to do is find a dealer for your make of trailer and have them inspect it. If they're familiar with their product line they should be able to tell you the actual model of trailer, it's carrying capacity, and whether it's rated for what you actually have on it. If it's the torsion axles they should be able to give you an accurate estimate of the cost to replace which you'll have to compare to the cost of a new trailer to get your best deal. It will help to check around your area for a trailer shop with a really good reputation for straight dealing to get a comparison price on replacing axles if that's the route you choose. Good luck, hope this helps.
