Yamaha 300 hp

I'm going to look at a used center console with a 2004 Yamaha 300 2-stroke. I think I've heard that this is one engine Yamaha may have gotten wrong. I'd appreciate hearing views from anyone who knows anything about these engines...I'd much rather pass on the boat than buy a headache. Many thanks.

I definitely know of one person who bought a new 23 Regulator with a 300 Yahmaha and has had lots of problems with it over the years right from their first trip out of the marina and I believe is now repowering the boat. I can't recall exactly what year model but it was the first year they made it . . . . which may very well be 2004.

I would make sure it has all the updates like oilpump if needed.
I know they had some problems with that motor like the oilpump recall.
