I am still activly trying to sell my boat even with the snow flying. So i had a couple of bites last week so I was actively looking for my new boat. It is amazing the amount of nice used boats and the unbelievable deals on new and leftover rigs down there compared to what dealers are asking up here Cape cod & north. I am seriously thinking about driving down there to buy a boat and haul it back. Also there is a place in Va. Eds Marine superstore that some killer prices as well almost seems to good to be true.

A lot of guys in my boat owners club are on the west coast and buy their outboard motors form Ed's marine. They claim even with the shipping it's a great deal and I have heard nothing but positive things about service and support.
Just my two yen ...

I bought my "like new" Sailfish 218 in Tampa last winter.
It was a piece cake.
Fly down rent a car, buy boat, fly home.
pay a boat transport company to bring it to you.
I paid around $1500 to ship the boat from Tampa to NH. I used a boat transport broker from maine to put the shipping deal togther.
put a brand new trailer under her and love it.
would do it again

Eds has a Sea Hunt BX 19 which is pretty much my first choice right now rigged with a 2007 F115 yammie for 19,500 a local dealer quoted me $26,500 There is a killer Mako twenty with a t top and a Honda 150 in florida the boat is totally out of my league size wise but its listed for $18,900 so even with a used trailer that would only be 20,000 I would drive the old F-150 to Rivera Beach and drag her home myself

My experience a few years back when looking to purchase a Parker 1801 the prices were better farther down South but I couln't find a dealer willing to sell me a new boat. Had to do with dealer area coverage.
Seemes like dealers treated used boats diferently and I opted out to buy a used Parker about 8 hrs South of me at a very good price that I couldn't come close to matching up here in the NE.
But I seem to go thru boats like some people go through cars. Never enough toys and always looking for another. Mine is now for sale like yours ...

Parker is like that it is an agrement with all the dealers But all the other makes and dealers are pretty cutthroat. Except the dealers in maine They list their boats at the highest end of the retail and seldom budge then tey sell them leftover the next year for alot less?? I havent ever been able to wrangle a good deal in MAine always had to go to NH

I hear ya ... I went to Ga to pick up my lil rig.
I could not find a small used cat up here.
If you do ... talk to your insurance agent to make sure they have all the docs needed to cover any damage that may happen on your trip back. Avoid the "worst case scenario".
And if you're really a guide, then trip could be deductable even if you don't find a boat ... perfect plan for a winter get away I would think.
Good luck.
ps ... Just remembered I even bought a Hobie Kayak from Florida. I picked it up at Logan. Saved like $300 ... yea .. whatever it takes.

Although I live in Florida now, I bought boats in Florida and towed them home when I lived in both Georgia and North Carolina. The glut of boats down here in South Florida means for some very VERY good deals. Sadly, I only need one boat and only have one lift on my dock or I might find all the temptation unbearable.

Several years ago when we were looking for a new/used boat we looked while we were in the Keys and found lots to choose from. We opted not to buy down there at the time and a friend of ours that lives down there said the disadvantage to buying used is that the boats are usually VERY used as there is no real off season where the boats are in storage like ours are here in New England. Also he said to always have the engine checked out as alot of idiots run them in too shallow of water and they are always picking up too much sand or mud. The market is so flooded there that some guys just go get a new boat when when the current one starts to act up rather than get it fixed.

A few years back I had a chance to buy a 16' scout, 7-8yrs old, with Yamaha power and trailer. I was down visiting my brother at the time, and the boat belonged to a guy he worked with. Was well taken care of, and the guy was supposedly looking for about $6k for the entire rig, but was willing to "talk". Would have been my first boat, but the timing wasn't right, just didn't pan out. Still think about that one though.
When and if I do find myself in the market, I will certainly be asking my brother to keep an eye open down there - generally much better deals and a much bigger market for boats in general.
Think of how many people, in that upside-down housing market, are probably going to be selling boats (that were bought with home equity) just to try to stay square on their mortgage......
