I am planning on updating both the GPS and Sounder this winter on the Boat. 21 foot cc with a T-Top.
I am not sure if I am better off going with a Combo unit or two separate units. I won't be able to flush mount them, they will go on top of the console, I will also go with a transom mounted transducer.
I want color on both, and hopefully a 5 inch screen on both. Or the largest possible on a combo unit.
Budget - $1000-1200.
What are you using right now that might be what I am looking for?
Thanks:-%

U can't go wrong with Garmin. I have the 1760 model I think on my 20' Whaler, and it is everything I could possibly need....color, split screen, sounder. A solid piece of equipment.

I would go with the combo unit, then get a backup handheld GPS for redundancy. I have a Furuno GP7000F. Good unit. I will say, when you look at the gps, make sure that you're happy with the screen size. My furuno has a 16X9 aspect ratio which helps, but I still wish I went with a bigger screen, since it gets real busy when I zoom out.
The small Garmin GPSmaps are nice little handhelds and you can still find the non-color versions online for well under 200 bucks.

I have a handheld GPS as well that I keep with a hand held VHF in a ditch bag.
Thanks for the suggestions I'll look into them, the humminbird units look sharp.

Moron,
I bought the Garmin 420S 4" screen with the built in world wide base maps. This unit is a combo unit and I purchased the transom mounted transducer and external antenna. I think it set me back a little over $800 when all was said and done. They do have a 5" modle which is probably still within your price range. The thing I would watch out for is the rate of screen up date. Mine sucks when I scroll around from my current position it takes to long in my opinion to get to a new area. The screen will go blank and there is a delay of a few secs. I remember Dhale H. saying that the North Star units which used to me NavMans are very good with a quick screen update. Good luck and take your time shopping,

I can give you a great deal on this unit. $450 shipped to your door. I have one that was given to me by my boss, he thought he'd buy one for his Yamaha jet boat....then decided to buy a fishing boat that had the equipment on it already. I paid @ $800 for mine last year and love it.
I don't need two.
This one has the remote antenna, not built in.
Comes with everything you need including transom mount transducer.
