I'm picking out a new lowrance-38c hd. I have a choice of dual-frequency
(50/200khz) or 200khz. All the time is spent fly fishing around the cape. The boat is 21ft. and will usually fish along the coast but will also go off to chase bft. What transducer is the better type for my needs?

Go with the 200 khz. the dual frequency are for water over 200 feet.

It'd be nice to see bait balls holding deep when looking for tuna...
I'd go for the dual frequency ducer. I don't know the particulars of the Lowrance model you are looking at but most of the dual frequency capable units allow you to select opperation with one, the other or both frequencies. Seems like you could cover all of your bases with the dual.

I'm not familiar with your specific electronics either but ditto the recommendation for the dual frequency transducer. I recently upgraded to a Furuno with an Airmar tilted element ducer for inshore stripers and tuna chasing. Worth every penny.
