I'm looking for feedback on reliabilty on this motor so far for mine a 1999 the computer failed after the first 3hours and had to be replaced. The motor has weeped oil fron the the oil supply and oil return lines on the oil pump due to poor O ring seals. This quick release set up on the oil pump doe'snt make much sense. It also defeats the purpose of a low pollution motor if its dumping oil in the water.

Evinrude has extended my gurnatee an extra year for a total of 3 years. Its a good thing as for the shake down cruise after a winter's storage the motor now skips at rpm above 2000. Dealer is taking care of problems but this leaves me wondering if there is some sort of qualtity problem with the electrical componets for these motors.

Looking for feedback on FICHT!

I have had good luck with my 1998 Johnson 150HP Ficht. The engine was "updated" by the OMC team last season when they replaced the cylinder heads, plugs, and computer under a special OMC warranty program at no charge. This was done to correct possible problems experienced by trolling speed 1200-1800 rpm(cylinder head burnout) and the new combustion chamber design and RPM transistion prevents fouling, etc.
These engines need premium 2-cycle oil, and a special Evinrude "Ram" oil is now on the market. Good battery charge to get a hot spark and run all engine controls at startup is critical. Engine missing caused by loose plug wire has happened to me several times, but generally all is well, and performance is very satisfactory. The "break-in" period is at least 20 to 30 hours during which time the engine is programmed to inject more oil which may cause some fouling. Once the engine is "broken-in" you should find instant starting, smooth running, and no oil smoke.
