In my friends garage and for sale is a 2002 Flats Boat with a 90 Mercury Salt Water Series. He rarely uses this rig and I'm interested in buying.
The boat is a BC - 16' 9" GHOST. Has any one owned or run this model rig. How skinny of water will I be able too get in with two long rodders.
Im interested in flyfishing gulf coast bays and marshes for redfish. Will this serve my needs? The rig looks like a good plateform for flyfishing. Any thoughts appreciated. Is this a "Back Country" Boat?

I've only fished out of one BC, a size larger than you're referring to... BC has been out of business for a few years now, that hull may have come from their last production year. Ranger boats bought up the molds and now produces a version of both the Ghost and the Phantom (both appear heavier than the original to my eye..). The Ghost should float skinny and run in same. When they first came out Chico Fernandez was their spokesman and had one of the lighter hulls, (not sure which one was the lightest) That 90 is a lot of motor for that hull - it should fly!

There's only one way to know whether that hull will fill your needs. You've got to run it and pole it. I'd want it to track well and be very quiet poling into or across a chop (my Maverick, an old hull, isn't very silent unless I'm poling with the wind...). It would be nice if you can actually run and pole it in areas you fish for a day. That will be the acid test. Failing that pole it aground, then jump out and see what the actual depth was... A lot of flats boats claim they float in 10" of water, pole one aground then fiind out the depth is actually 15" or more.. Good luck, let the forum know what you find as you look into it.

Thank you Sir! I appreciate the information. Your advice is exactly what I will do. I will be on the phone with him shortly. Grab a new set of spark plugs and a new cranking battery, with 10 gallons of new fuel and a little marvel mystery oil and out the door I go for a test run. Gotta luv-it!
