I will most likely be spending about 4 days camping with my boat anchored up. I am a trailer boater so the boat has never sat in the water overnight and always gets cleaned after each trip. Saying I am anal about its appearance is a gross understatement. It still burns me when I see one tea stain that is barely visible and under the boat. What can I do besides giving it a fresh waxing to prevent any staining or growth on the boat? I think I remember reading somewhere that there is an anti-fouling wax but not sure that is what I am looking for considering the amount of time I will be in the water. I am thinking scum lines will be more of an issue. Maybe an enviornmentally friendly soap and a brush and give it a quick saltwater scrubbbing.

Thanks,

Sean

Don't worry about 4 days, Sean. A fresh coat of wax before and a good wash after will take care of it.

Going anywhere good? :brow

Waquoit Bay in the fall and fish the vineyard and elizabeths from there.

I have been told you can spray the bottom with Pam non stick frying pan spray. Never tried it myself but have seen a boat that did use it. Looked good to me, no stains or crud on the bottom after a month in the water. I use Insulator Wax on the bottom when leaving the boat in the water while fishing Montauk in the fall.

Sean,

Tom D frequents this site every so often, and he has a Jones Bros. (I think you do too, right?)... a few years back he took his boat up to Maine for a couple weeks and I remember him mentioning the anti-fouling wax you are talking about.

Maybe he'll chime in, but I remember seeing something like that on his hull. If he doesn't respond here I'll send hiim an email.

Forget the wax ... you won't need it for 4 days and tests actually report it SLOWS you down when you wax the bottom ...

Sean,

Nothing should happen in just four days. Running the boat in cleaner ocean water will help flush the surfaces clean. My opinion, just use a deck brush if you must. Soaps harm the marine environment. That's work that can be done on land. Most marine growth will start first in quite areas like the motor bracket, but that would take awhile.

Thanks all. Sounds like I am worried about nothing. Good point Ray about the soap. I guess even friendly soaps probably aren't that friendly.

Sean, you won't like the look of the anti-fouling wax, it looks like scum  it'll keep the marine growth off, but for 4 days, just powerwash it. Tom D

That sounds like a plan.

You're not going to need to do anything, especially if you're using the boat.

I used to take my 23 Mako to Nantucket for two weeks each summer. It has never been bottom painted so I would wax the bottom as best as I could with the Starbrite TEFLON polish. After the two weeks, you could start to see some stuff growing on the transom but it would wash right off.
