Coming up on the 100hour service on my DF70. Can anyone reccommend a good Suzuki dealer. The dealer that I bought the motor from doesn't know his --- from his elbow. Looking in around boston, gloucester.

Here are the area dealers:

There is also Bamforth Marine in Brunswick ME who is very good.

Detra,

I have a 1999 DF 70 that came on a used rig that I bought in Maine 2 years ago. Love the motor and have been pleased with the service provided by J&W on Bridge Street in Salem, MA

I highly recommend Drew down at Cape Ann Marine. I got my Suzuki down on the cape near Wareham from some place that was absolutely awful...worst service ever, and they screwed me by not installing some features and then lied about it. Cape Ann marine is the exact opposite. They have always been really helpful, service oriented and have managed to hook me up in a pinch on more than a few occasions, which I appreciated quite a bit as they were really busy with other things.

Hey Dusty, are you referring to the one on Cranberry Highway? I am talking to them about Suzuki. Maybe I should go to Cape Ann. Feel free to use PM or email to respond.

thanks for the tips everyone. I will probably try cape-ann. My df70 misses and won't go above 4000 rpm's until warmed up. Once warm, approx 10 min after start up she runs perfect. Anybody else have this problem or is this normal?

Wow, that "ain't" normal, that's odd. I doubt it's electrical (e.g., powerpack or ecu module), as usually electronic items fail once warm/hot.

Did you treat the fuel last Fall? Can you get access to the carbs or air intakes? (I am NOT familiar with that puppy). I'd get a can of "Deep Creep" made by the Seafoam company, from Napa or AutoZone, this is a aerosol version.

Put motor to high idle ~1200 RPMs or more and spray into carbs/intake(s), one at a time, moving fast from one to another, until she almost stalls. Do this for 30 seconds and shutoff and let sit for 15 minutes. Repeat ... repeat. Then start and idle around headway speed for 10 minutes or so and then see what happens.

I'm guessing you may have a piece of old/stale fuel that has "gelled" or varnished in a port that perhaps clears itself (gets out of the way, or softens up) after she gets warm.

OBs need spark, fuel, and oxygen ... that's why I'm guessing it's in the fuel delivery system. Also check all of your fuel hoses, most likely under the cowling, one could be sucking air when cold and running OK once hot (akin to a radiator hose dropping fluid as the engine cools off once stopped).

Thanks for the suggestions Reel-Rascals. I was thinking a fuel delivery problem as well, only it didn't make sense as to why the problem went away once warmed up. I did put stabilizer into the tank. I noticed the problem last year on a couple of late fall cold weather trips but it was barely noticeable. On this years shake-down trip it was much more pronounced. I plan on swapping out the fuel line, and will try your degunking method. This motor has no carbs and is a digital multiport fuel injected four-stroke, so my ability to work on it is limited. Fortuneately, motor is still under warranty so if anything is wrong the dealer can deal with it.

My only suggestion...let the dealer handle it. You don't want them to say you did something to it...and void that beautiful warranty..I would give it to them and let them handle it..don't forget to ask if this line of engines are common to this problem..then be really inquisitive as to what caused the problem so you know what to look for if it happens again (outside of the warranty period) or you'll know what not to do if it was in fact an adative or fuel delivery problem..or whatever...good luck..try to get it done soon..they almost here!!..

I have twin 250's and had them installed by Atlantic Marine on the Cape. They did a great job and know what they are doing. Did you get any information on the recall last year. There was a minor part replacement not sure if it could be the cause of your problems. At the least give them a call and ask, don't mess with it and void the warranty.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Haven't touched it yet, I had it out this weekend and the effect diminished. I'm thinking there was/is some fuel clog of some sort. I will change out the fuel line, bulb and fittings, it's definitely due for that. I may also add a water separator if I can find room for one.

I will also drop it off for 100 hour servicing at cape anne after this weekend and check for recalls

PAX give Roys marine a call out on route 20 in Worcester. Very nice guy., I found him to be very honest and great to deal with. Just purchased a 25 vtwin Suzuki from him. Very detail orientated and knowledgable.
