Anyone fished Freeport, TX before?

Has anyone fished the Freeport, TX area? I've never had the pleasure of fishing that side of the Gulf, but will have a few opportunities this winter on a some business trips. I’m happy fishing inshore and/or offshore.

Any guide recommendations and general info are greatly appreciated!

Not Freeport but nearby in Corpus Christi. I had a bonefish/tarpon trip to Belize and, since we had a stopover in Houston, decided to take 2 extra days and see what the action on Laguna Madre inside Padre Island was like. We fished 2 days with a local guide, went to Belize for a week, AND WISHED WE HAD STAYED IN TX!!

We fished inshore sight fishing for redfish to 10-12#, also caught specks (seatrout)

Freeport has the same inshore set up and options, is considered even more redfish ground zero than Corpus C. The fishing is year-round. Sorry I can't help you with guide recommendations.

10 to 12# reds and a few specks sound like a great way to fight off the winter months! We’re not fortunate like you guys: no winter steelhead run out here…

Ahoy OceanRunner,
I have fished Freeport . You might check the wind reports in Freeport before you go especially if using the skinny rods.
I am new to the fly-fishing crowd but have used conventional at the following;
1) Jetties at Quintana ,2) Bryan beach3) Also I have had luck with with surf fishing @ access roads #2 & #5 from Surfside.
There are protected waters also at Christmas Bay. I don't have the phone number but I'm sure someone on this site can furnish for Ernie's Too bait camp.
There is also plenty of room down at San Luis pass which just to the east of Freeport.
Good fishing for reds, specks, whiting, croaker, sand trout and even sharks.

The best offshore guides out of Freeport are Capt. Eliott's party boats. There is not much bay there but what Salty said was right. You can get reds and flounder right now just off the beach and further out vermillion snapper and amberjack. I'm going out of Freeport this weekend but offshore.

Rockport, Aransas Pass and Port O'Connor are fairly good too!

I had a hellofa last day of fishing just of the Jersey Shore two weeks ago!

Looks like there are some decent inshore & offshore options. It sounds like the Red fishing (and specks) this time of year is pretty reliable. I'll let you know how it goes.
