Bought Guide-Ons... Now To Fit Them

Broke down and bought the Cabelas bunk guide-ons discussed here in a previous post. The instructions that came with them tell you how to assemble the hardware but not how to fit them to the boat. Does anyone know what the proper method is? I was thinking of having them elevated to the mid freeboard height, about a foot from the stern. As for the gap between the bunks and the hull, how does 1/2" sound?

These are 5' bunks for a Parker 1800.

Thats basically how I did mine. You really will appreciate them on windy days or when trying to load in a stiff current.
