I have listened to a Bunch (that's the technical term) of marine speakers recently and found that for the money (and my boat type - a 20' center console) that I prefer the Pioneer TS-MR165's. Well wouldn't you know it, the 165's are being discontinued and replaced with the TS-MR1640.
Anyone heard these 2 speakers side by side?
Are they similar in sound. Is one better than the other?
Has anyone heard either of these against the Poly Planar MA6600?
I hear great things about the PP MA6600 but cannot find them locally to hear them...anyone know the freq they cover?
The 1640 should have a bit more bass as they extend down to 30KHZ. I think what got me in the first place was that most of the smaller speakers (6.5") speakers only go as low as 50 or 60KHZ and lose a lot of the low end...i.e. the Bose 131's sound nice and crisp at the high end but fall apart around 60KHZ so they sound tinny unless you add a subwoofer (which I do not want to do).
