I remember seeing an ad in a boating magazine for a cushioned foot mat that you place at the helm station on a powerboat, but can't remember where I saw it or who makes it. After running around on LI Sound for much of the afternoon today, and having a bad right ankle, I'm thinking it sounds like a good idea. I know when I used to bartend, that I always appreciated how much the soft, rubbery floormats behind the bars reduced the fatigue of standing for a long time. Anybody know who makes these? Anyone ever tried one?
If somebody can point me towards who makes and/or sells them, I'd appreciate it. I would hope they would be a) inexpensive and b) non-marking to the deck.
Thanks.
PhilS- You might try some of the restaurant supply houses, they carry the floor mats that are used behind the bar. I don't know about their non-marking the deck though or even if they would be non-skid enough to stay in place especially on fiberglass. Just my $.02, Ron

I know Cabela's has a soft back carpet you can order. But I think I saw a more serious cusion type flooring at West Marine.

Bob,
thanks...looks like the ticket. I'll contact them to see how they secure on the deck- looks like 'deck snaps' is what they call it- I imagine it's little snaps you glue to the deck which is proably OK. Will post what I fins out - thanks again! :)

I got one of these at the Hook Up in Orleans. It has a striper on it and it is AWESOME. The old back can't take the beating any more. I like this one better than the Footcush.

No Terry I would not call your back old yet. I think it has more to do with cruel and unusual punishment you treat your back to at 50knots across the bay. --123-3

I just spotted one on Saturday at Boater's World over in R.I. I took a good look at it and it sure looks nice. If you go to there web site you should be able to find it. It was a little pricey but I think it's worth the investment.

I bought a footcush last year after I herniated a lower disk carrying my family's crap all over Disney World (another reason to hate the Mouse). I never drilled the snaps into the deck because I wasn't sure if I'd like it. Bottom line is they work great and are easy to clean etc, but I'm not sure if they're worth the $75 for one...all they are is a piece of wrestling mat sewn into nylon. If you can find some wrestling mat somewhere Bldg 21 Boat Top in Randolph could sew it into a cover for you for a lot less than $75...
