I am getting very close to buying a boat and keeping at a dock in the Greenwich, CT/Rye, NY area of the LI sound. Is it worth owning a boat in this area for fishing mostly and also for some fun with family and friends?

Is the water getting cleaned up?

Thanks in advance.

I certainly think so....on all counts. I just bought a center console to keep in Westport mostly to fish the sound. I fished the sound in Darien, Westport, Norwalk etc. a lot last year and some the year before. Much of what I did was from shore on the fly, but a lot last year was from a boat as well. I had a ball....stripers and blues all summer and way into the fall. Albies off Pt. Jefferson in October. Big schools of bluefish tearing up bait were a scream to throw poppers to on an 8 weight or 9 weight rod and there were bass underneath if you could sink past the choppers to get there. I'd say it's very worthwhile and compared to 20 years ago when i used to sail out of Larchmont, the water seems a lot cleaner to. :)
