Hi,
Could anyone help me with some questions about the Mitzi 15?

Generally how fast can a Mitzi 15 get with a 40H.P. with two people in typical flats/bay conditions?

What is the cost of a new Mitzi 15 with a four-stoke 40h.p./2-stoke 40h.p.?

THanks

A boat that size with a 40hp motor might hit anywhere from 28-35 under ideal conditions. Unfortunately it is rare that you get a full day when you can go WOT. I suspect you will probably want to do most of your cruising in the 20-24 mph range. Which you will find is plenty fast enough on average. One consideration, since the 40 is the max motor hp rated for the Mitzi 15 weight becomes a big factor between a typical 2 stroke and a 4 stroke. I would suggest looking at Evinrudes Etec 40, get the quiet fuel economy with out a big increase in weight.
A Google search will get you more info, including a site where a 2003 is for sale at 11k.

40 hp is the maximum recommended for the Mitzi 15. I imagine with either 2 or 4 stroke it would fly somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 mph. It's a sure thing that with a 2 stroke you could get into less water and the boat would be easier to pole.

Just for reference on the speed. I had a 16' lund with a 25hp. Solo it did about 28mph. If I carried a couple friends the 25 had problems getting on a plane. I went to a 40hp 4 stroke, Problem solved. Solo on a calm day with no dings in the prop I could just about hit 38 mph.(wind at back, with current, down hill etc.) but typically could count on 36-37. Now if I have found the specs correctly the Mitzi hull runs about 200 pounds less than the lund I had. That means a higher speed. The lund had a flat boat, the mitzi has a 12 degree dead rise, that will cost a little at wot on flat water but should make it have a higher more comfortable cruise speed than my lund. This might be offset by the lightness of the hull.
So many variables to consider, good luck.

Call the factory. I've spoken with both Tom & his brother. Great guys who will answer all your questions.

If/ when I add a flats boat I'm going with the 17.

Good luck,
