VHF Operators License

Just bought my first VHF radio and the first thing I read in the manual is that you need to have a "restricted radiotelephone operators permit" in order to legally use a VHF.

What is this, where do I get one, and do I dare ask...how much does it cost?

If it's just the standard marine vhf I think you do not have to worry about it.

You are right. I was told the requirement was eliminated a few years ago unless visiting a foreign port.
