VHF Radio ?

Don't laugh. I have never owned a boat before and grew up in the country far from the ocean. I now live in Boston and love fishing for striped bass. Lucky for me, my buddy is selling me his little 13 ft whaler that I plan on using for fishing the flats and rivers around Mass. I have an old VHF in my truck and was wondering if this would work on the boat too or do I need a special marine VHF radio? Thanks!

If it is water resistence I don't see why not.

I though that radios that transmitted on Marine Band VHF were, by FCC regulations, not permitted on land except on a licensed and fixed base station. If I'm correct, the radiio in your truck is either a marine radio or, more likely, a CB radio. In the old days, there were a lot of people using CB on the water but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
