Finally, I bought a 15 foot open skiff with a 25hp Evinrude. The boat is great, 6 feet wide and clean for flyfishing. There is a decent casting deck up front. I'll mostly be fishing the Indian River lagoon in Florida with it.

Here's the question:
I would like to get a trolling motor, preferably a bow mounts, so that I can control the boat while fishing from the casting deck.

I am on a limited budget, therefore, I figured I would get a transom mount motor and mount it on one of those brackets on the bow. In addition, I do not want to clutter up the casting deck with potential flyline magnets. Aside from having the tiller face away from me, should there be any problems with this type of setup?

Any other reccomendations or comments are appreciated.

Hey Dave...sounds like a sweet setup. I bought a Flats and Bay skiff while down in Florida this year and it has a bow mounted trolling motor with intermitent (sp) foot swithes. I really like it and can't imagine fishing alone on my skiff without it. But being a flycaster the thing does get in the way from time to time. Especially with a little wind on the water. I found that it helps to use a collapsable mesh stripping basket on the deck when the wind does kick up. Im sure there may be a more thought process fix around but using a stripping basket when said conditions exist works for me....Good luck and have fun with the skiff!...I fished that area twice this past year and had a ball....Jeff
